Accommodations on Orcas Island
Bunk or Tent at Camp Moran
The convenient, inexpensive and absolutely most fun way to stay. Step outside in the morning and you’re among friends, on a grassy meadow, near hiking trails and a path to our private beach on Cascade Lake. You’re also steps away from breakfast, lunch and dinner at our scrumptious kitchen.
You can stay in a bunk for free, and we can provide bedding on request. We may also be able to scare you up a tent if you’d like to stay that way on the ample grounds. Since Camp Moran is the hub of activity, you could enjoy the whole weekend there and never leave.
Full disclosure: Camp Moran is a basic, no-frills place to stay. It’s rustic, like summer camp. We have six bunkhouses, each of which consist of a room with five to six bunks (10-12 twin beds) and a shared bathroom. We also have six bunkhouses that share one bathhouse nearby. We don’t yet know how full these rooms will be.
Rooms are well-lit, heated and have plug points. Our mattresses are portable and plentiful, meaning that they can be combined on the floor for sleeping or used in a tent. Tents will share a bathhouse situated nearby.
If you’re someone with back problems, have trouble sleeping, need a lot of primping time or need absolute quiet or privacy, Camp Moran is probably not the place for you. If you are up for sharing some laughs while waiting your turn for the hair dryer, toilet or shower, we bet you’ll have a good time.
If there are six or more in your family or circle, it’s likely we can assign you to your own bunkhouse.
Men’s and Women’s Cabins: We encourage those not bringing kids to consider staying in the dedicated Men’s Cabin or Women’s Cabin. David will stay in the Men’s Cabin and Anjali in the Women’s Cabin until Wedding Night, and we will delight in your company.
We want to make this easy. If you have specific questions or requests to make Camp Moran a possibility for you, let us know.
Stay at a Nice Hotel
We’ve reserved a block of rooms three miles away at the Orcas Suites at Rosario, where each room has a private deck and breathtaking views of the San Juan Islands. Premium rooms have kitchenettes and full sized refrigerators. Check here for rates.
Since Orcas is a popular destination for this holiday weekend and there are at least two weddings booked at the nearby Rosario Mansion that weekend, we strongly recommend you reserve your room 90 days in advance.
Note that there is no dining at Rosario and that the nearest restaurant is five miles away in the town of East Sound. (All meals from Thursday afternoon on are available at Camp Moran.) Also, with three miles of windy roads between Camp Moran and Rosario, consider designating a driver for the ride home after the night’s festivities.
Stay in Town
The village of East Sound has gourmet grocery stores, cafes, restaurants, bars, shops, and a library all within walking distance of one another. The town is 6 miles away from Camp Moran on a direct road. To explore accommodations, inquire with the Visitors Bureau. Keep in mind that Labor Day weekend is one of the busiest weekends of the year on Orcas, so book early to get a good place.
