What to Bring and Wear

To Bring:

We are pleased to offer you four days at a facility that includes a private lakeside beach on the San Juans’ most prized island. Think of it as a resort without having to worry how much to tip the cabin boy. However, as there is no cabin boy, make sure you bring the essentials:

  • warm clothes (Washington state is having a chilly summer. We hope for warm temps, but please prepare for day highs in the 60s and night lows in the high-40s)
  • rain jacket (it is Washington, after all)
  • sturdy hiking/walking shoes
  • flip flops
  • water bottle
  • swimsuit
  • bug spray (optional – bugs are not bad in September)
  • sunscreen
  • flashlight
  • towel/s for beach (and for bathing, if you’re staying onsite)

To Wear:

Somewhere between this...

...and this.

Friday – Family-style dinner (summer wear)
Anjali and David will be wearing bermuda shorts and a sundress, though we haven’t yet decided who will wear what.

Saturday – Rehearsal dinner/BBQ (all guests welcome), same dress code as Friday. Wear shoes that are comfy for dancing, and soft enough that if you step on your partner’s feet, he/she won’t hate you the next day.

Sunday Wedding and Reception: “Elegant casual.” We’re not hosting some stodgy black-tie-optional affair, but a down-to-earth lakeside event with friends. Preceding the wedding, guests will walk on a gentle downhill on a paved/dirt path to the wedding site. The ceremony will be held on a green knoll by the dock. Afterward, you’ll walk back toward the lodge and a grassy orchard for drinks and appetizers. Feel free to bring changes of clothes or footwear to better enjoy the festivities as the night progresses, including dancing!

For those who would like more specific dress recommendations, we offer the following advice:

Men: Short- or long-sleeved shirts and slacks are preferred, but if shorts are your style, go for it. Coats and ties not necessary unless they make you feel more wedding-y.

Women: Sundresses, Indian clothes, cocktail dresses, and/ or blouse with slacks/skirt are all perfectly acceptable. You’ll want to wear comfortable shoes, as you’ll need to cover some ground from the wedding hall to the marriage site and back again.
